before installing wordpress, you need to have a domain (or subdomain) and a hosting service. there are hosting services that provides subdomain registration, all you need is to choose the best one. for this context, i'm using awardspace as my hosting service, which by the way, offers a free and/or a paid hosting service.

unfortunately, a lot of awardspace users fail to activate plugins due to the awardspace error 404 page encounter. and these users are most likely to give up being not able to figure out what's wrong.
what is causing the awardspace error 404 page?
awardspace's terms of services states that:
5.g you acknowledge and agree that based on its sole discretion awardspace.com might filter abusive words and/or links due to security reasons (i.e. words or links of paypal, ebay, aol, amazon).
therefore, any words or links, which awardspace considers "abusive", found inside your codes will force the service to filter the whole page!
what shall i do?
1. omit. before uploading the unzipped folder of the wordpress plugin, scan through the codes, which in this case are the php files, and omit all instances of awardspace's abusive words, such as, but not limited to, paypal, ebay, aol, amazon, etc. 2. save. after editing the files, just save. note that it's advisable to save a backup copy of an unedited file - because you might omit some part of the codes that will cause the whole plugin not to work properly. 3. upload. upload the edited copy to the same folder of the corresponding files being replaced.
done it! you are now ready to activate the plugins!
repeat step no. 4 in wordpress plugin installation and you should be able to view a list of plugins on the right side of the admin panel.
i'm new to blogging and it's also my first time to setup a web blog application. it took me 2 days to figure out what was causing this error 404 page and i want to share this anti-headache information to all bloggers out there beginning to setup their own web blog page. i hope this helps!
